Talent Watch – Nadine Ghosn

Drawing upon her Lebanese-Brazilian roots and multicultural upbringing, young talent Nadine Ghosn designs whimsical fine jewelry that grabs eyeballs. Memorable pieces that mimic sushi rolls, onigiri buns and veggie burgers have landed Nadine Ghosn Fine Jewelry (NGFJ) on many a wish-list. When Karl Lagerfeld sported NGFJ earphone necklace at Fendi Fall 2017 couture show in Paris, it established beyond a doubt that Nadine is a talent to watch.

This past summer, the designer showcased her collections for the first time at the Couture Show, in Las Vegas, and bagged a coveted award too. She has been on a roll since. “Winning the most ‘Innovative Design’ Award at Couture this year was an honor for me. The fact that industry experts recognized my design means the world to me, and having their support was very encouraging and a huge confidence boost,” she says.

Nadine Ghosn chats about inspirations, food and jewels:

What drew you to jewelry and what prompted you to launch your brand NGFJ?

My passion for jewelry was apparent since a very young age – I would apply stickers all over my ears, layer multicolored candy necklaces and my parents knew that jewelry was my go-to gift request. My family traveled non-stop – while growing up, I would collect pieces to preserve the cultural learnings and memories I made along the way. Jewelry became somewhat of an anchor. As I grew older, I came to appreciate the craftsmanship behind the jewelry, which renders each piece unique. The personal value that jewelry pieces hold – paired with my admiration for the savoire-faire – drove me to further my learnings at GIA and then later start my brand.

Where do you seek design inspiration – from sushi, burgers and apple earphones, your designs are so varied?

Often times, we forget to stop and value our surroundings, and to celebrate the beauty in the ordinary. All the pieces within the NGFJ portfolio were inspired by my upbringing, surroundings and the people closest to me. The Veggie Burger jewel, in particular, was inspired by my younger sister (and best friend) – she is a vegetarian and has gluten-free food.

What kind of woman did you have in mind when designing your jewelry?

Rather than a type of woman, I had in mind a type of mindset – one that seeks unique and original designs, and that does not fear taking risks.

Is food often on your mind - your Hamburger collections followed the sushi-inspired On A Roll line, clearly influenced by life in Tokyo?

I admit that I am a huge foodie! And yes, the On A Roll collection was inspired by my childhood in Japan.

Are you working on any designs at the moment?

I feel like I am constantly cooking up something new – there is so much inspiration around me that it is impossible not to!

What’s your vision for your brand?

To continue to disrupt the industry with innovative designs, while staying true to the craftsmanship.

A Look at This Year’s Most Exceptional Timepieces

Cover Photo Courtesy of CHANEL

Every creation has an element that makes it exceptional and unique in its own way. And when it comes to timepieces, exceptional gets redefined and imagination goes beyond what one could expect. Thankfully, this year brought on plenty of watches that make every heart skip a beat and open our eyes to a world taken over by creativity and exceptional beauty.

This year, the watchmaking houses had so much in store for us. From the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie to Baselworld, 2019 reached a new level of creativity and boldness. Watchmaking took a pleasantly unexpected turn, leaving women watch enthusiasts with so many pieces on their wish-lists.

In fact, every watch was made exceptional in a way or another. Whether in the artistry of the dial, the creativity of the case or the uniqueness of the watch itself, they were all remarkable. Among the 8 watches we chose for you, Cartier shows you how creative the case of a watch can be, while Hermès, Chopard, Bvlgari and Dior interpreted the concept of an artistic dial each in its own way. As for CHANEL, Audemars Piguet and Piaget, their timepieces were exceptional because of their designs with the first choosing to tell the time in the form of a ring, the second in the form of a sapphire tornado and the third through a trendy cuff.

Warm Gold Tones Take Over… the High Jewelry Way

Cover Photo Courtesy of Instagram.com/piaget

When you’re tanned and glowing, all you think about is ways to highlight the beautiful color of your skin. This doesn’t only mean choosing summer attires that perfectly complement your sun-kissed complexion, but also the jewelry and accessories you wear.

Speaking of jewelry, what about the pieces you wear on special and fancy occasions? Well, your outfit certainly calls for a high jewelry piece that helps you shine like a star wherever you are. Personally, I prefer to go for yellow or pink gold jewelry pieces when I get tanned, because there is a certain charm in warm gold tones that makes you look so glamorous. Don’t you agree?

Luckily for us, lately the world of jewelry brought to light many exquisite jewelry pieces made of yellow and pink gold – breaking that white gold-diamonds and precious stones equation. Of course, there are still some classics for the ladies who favor this style, but we can’t let the statement yellow and pink gold pieces go unnoticed.

Set with diamonds, colorful gems or black and white hard stones, the creations that we’ve narrowed down for you will let you fall under their spell from the very first glance!

LVMH Announces First Watch Exhibition in Dubai

Watch enthusiasts, get ready to welcome a new watch exhibition in Dubai! January 2020 will be the month that will witness the first LVMH Swiss Watch Manufactures exhibition in the city as announced each of Stéphane Bianchi – President of the LVMH Watch Division, and Jean-Christophe Babin – President of the Bvlgari Group.

Set to take place in Dubai Bvlgari Hotel this coming January, the event will include a list of 4 watch brands – which are Bvlgari, Tag Heuer, Zenith and Hublot – and will introduce you to each brand’s watchmaking news for 2020.

“In between Geneva in January and Basel in March, we have had in the recent years two major product presentations in the first quarter. This early discovery of our strategies, news and novelties has allowed our media and retail partners to better plan the year ahead and as such we have decided on this set up for 2020 to balance the scheduling of the other events,” stated Jean-Christophe Babin.

On another note, Stéphane Bianchi explains: “We remain very supportive and loyal to Baselworld and the Swiss watchmaking industry. However, it was not possible for us to go 13 months without a global presentation of our products and brands. This additional event further confirms the LVMH commitment to the strategic and profitable watch category.”

Venice Welcomes Dior’s Latest High Jewelry Collection, “Gem Dior”

Every year, Dior captivates us with a new high jewelry collection that captures the house’s most cherished values. However this year, the jewelry world is celebrating a special occasion: 20 years of Dior Joaillerie. Fit for the legendary French house and its extensive history, “Gem Dior” high jewelry collection is the latest marvel by Victoire de Castellane, writing history by being the largest high jewelry collection the house has ever witnessed.

This chromatic fairytale started last month in the heart of Venice through the Tiepolo Ball, in which Dior celebrated the cultures and savoir-faire of France and Italy. This actually takes us back in time to Charles de Beistegui’s legendary “Ball of the Century” at Palazzo Labia, for which Monsieur Dior designed the costumes alongside Salvador Dalí in 1951. Once again, this place opens a new chapter in the history of the house and welcomes the 38 exquisite parures of the new Gem Dior collection.

Presented in a fashion show that exuded elegance and sophistication, the high jewelry pieces were accompanied by 19 exclusive ball gowns created by Maria Grazia Chiuri – making the 20th anniversary of Dior Joaillerie as unique as it could ever be. With no less than 99 pieces that form 38 swooning sets, Gem Dior is the most extensive high jewelry collection presented by Dior to date. Exploring unprecedented harmonies and subtle color gradations, the pieces stand out by the gemstones that look like they randomly settle on the skin – presenting a raw yet studied irregularity that highlights the expertise of Dior in high jewelry-making.
