Every watchmaking house has its own special way of interpreting a certain source of inspiration. Using its creativity and expertise, it comes up with marvels that soon become a feast for the eyes, as well as a must-have to accompany us in our daily adventures. Nature is one of those endless sources of inspiration that most houses use in order to create stunning time-tellers, breaking the boundaries of the conventional. One of Mother Nature’s offerings – the finest and most delicate, might we say – are flowers, which bloomed on many dials and cases, exuding a unique sense of femininity and elegance.

Whether we’re talking about a big timepiece that redefines audacity or one with a small dial that offers a modern interpretation of the most classic watches of all times, the world of watchmaking is bursting with beautiful creations that cater to every style. Some houses chose to let their flowers bloom on the dial such as Jaeger-LeCoultre and Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron, while some others like Chaumet planted them on the case in the most delicate of ways. And for the woman who always seeks a modern style, Harry Winston offers two options that will certainly enhance her look.

The list goes on and on, but we made the task of helping you choose your favorite flowery timepiece much easier. Check out our 9-watch list!

Exclusive Insight on Van Cleef and Arpels’ Exhibition “Delicate Dancers”

Van Cleef & Arpels’ solid relationship with ballet and opera dates back to more than 70 years and that’s why they are celebrating this source of inspiration through “Delicate Dancers”. Like we said, ballet has and will always be so dear to the brand especially for Louis Arpels, one of the founding Arpels brothers, who made the first designs to express his passion for this kind of art.

The exhibition “Delicate Dancers” will take place from the 1st of August until the 15th of September at the newly opened “Les Salons Van Cleef & Arpels Dubai Opera”, in the Dubai Opera Plaza. In this magical place, visitors will be taken on a trip through time that starts in the 1940s, as they will get the chance to see both, the first and last, amazing ballerina brooches the House has made so far. This will allow them to see first-hand the tradition of feminine figures that the House admires.

Many clips are inspired by dancers who were remarkable throughout history like La Camargo from the 18th century. They are adorned with pleated gold, precious gems, and ornamental stones to perfectly mimic a ballerina on stage. Let’s take a look!

Revisiting the Most Iconic Watches for Men

Cover Photo Courtesy of Cartier

Revisiting iconic creations in the world of watchmaking is like honoring the past while creating a more promising future bursting with creativity and innovations. Why recreate an old timepiece when a watchmaking house has the ability to come up with a new, more modern design, might you ask. Well, the answer would definitely be cherishing the legacy and history that gave it the place it truly deserves in the industry. For watch connoisseurs, owning an icon is an achievement and adding it to their collection of time-tellers makes the latter even more valuable and treasurable.

Many houses that have gained an important place in the world of watchmaking resort to revisiting their icons, giving themselves the opportunity to keep their legacy alive, while offering men the features required in a watch born in the modern world. Below are some icons that were revisited in the past few years and worth highlighting.

Cartier, Santos de Cartier Skeleton Noctambule watch
Ordered by aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904 from Louis Cartier, the Santos de Cartier watch has a rich history in the world of modern wristwatches. It packs a statement through its square-shaped case supplied with intentionally visible screws and this year, the collection sees a new addition for the most modern of men: the new Santos de Cartier Skeleton Noctambule timepiece featuring bridges coated with Super-LumiNova pigments.
Jaeger-LeCoultre, Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon watch
Jaeger-LeCoultre cherishes its history in creating ultra plate watches through its Master collection. The house finds inspiration in its first ultra plate watch created in 1907 to reach new levels of minimalism, lightness and functionality to create a three-line collection with the newest timepiece being the Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon in pink gold.
Bvlgari, Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic watch
Although this Bvlgari timepiece hasn’t been around for more than 17 years, it has managed to make headlines by breaking five world records with its Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic edition – which makes it an icon in its own right. Featuring the thinnest ever mechanical Chronograph in watchmaking history, being an automatic watch with a GMT function and a record-setting 3.3mm thinness are some of the characteristics that gives it such an important place in the industry.
Girard-Perregaux, Laureato Absolute Carbon Glass watch
Girard-Perregaux’s Laureato watch has satisfied the requirements that every man seeks in a watch since its launch in 1975. Every edition speaks to the men of its time in a certain special way and this year, it’s time for the Laureato Absolute Carbon Glass watch to steal the light by introducing Carbon Glass in the world of high watchmaking for the very first time.
Zenith, 50th El Primero Anniversary El Primero A384 Revival watch
After 50 years of producing El Primero watches, Zenith celebrates this legacy with a special edition supplied with an original 1969 case of 37mm diameter and an automatic El Primero column-wheel chronograph.

A New Chapter in Van Cleef & Arpels’ Alhambra Saga

After years of Alhambra creativity and beauty, comes a new chapter as swooning as its predecessors. It’s one that opens our eyes to a new feast, where the guilloché technique’s charm reigns supreme accompanied by the charming sparkle of diamonds and the gleam of gold mother-of-pearl.

This one-of-a-kind combination is the perfect embodiment of what could only be named as a sunny glow – which took over the collection’s new jewelry creations and timepieces. First used by the Maison in the 1910s to embellish watch dials, this traditional technique’s use was extended later on in the 1930s to cases and minaudieres – amongst other pieces – made in precious metal.

Used on yellow gold, the guilloché technique leaves evocative lines, rendering the pieces more radiant than ever by intensifying the flow of light on the surface of the metal. And it’s through a simple interplay between guilloché motifs and diamond-set ones that Van Cleef & Arpels reaches perfection in creativity and beauty. A long necklace and a bracelet bare witness of this glamour as they captivate the gaze with their shifting reflections.

Faithful to the Alhambra aesthetic, the Alhambra motif keeps its delicate beaded contour and its central gold bead for added shimmer and adorns all the novelties in all its grace and beauty. Join us to dive into the new chapter of the Alhambra saga.
