A Conversation with Rita Lamah, Co-Founder of SIZEPICO

After much anticipation, the plus-size community’s need for fashionable clothing is finally answered. Blending between style and comfort, SIZEPICO offers just what every young woman and man in a quest for trendy pieces. Powered by an amazing fashion trio formed by Rita Lamah, Georges Hankash and Missak HajiAvedikian, the brand has taken this challenge to the next level.

To know more about it, Azyaamode has run a conversation with its co-founder Rita Lamah. Check it out!

What was the reason that made you establish the brand and the message you would like to deliver through the designs?

We are a team of 3 people: a graphic designer, a marketing specialist and a designer. We’ve technically been working in fashion for years now. Some of the reasons that made us establish this brand is the huge struggle of finding clothes for plus size people, as well as the personal experience of our cofounder, George, who is size 48, used to have fit issues, style issues and availability issues. Brands do not account for multiple body types when designing their clothing which makes it hard on this chunk of the society.

Given that the fashion industry is saturated with lots of brands, we believe that the world doesn’t need another fashion label that doesn’t have a soul, a clear, powerful or vivid DNA. This is where Sizepico has seen the light. I believe we’re the first to launch a plus-size fashion label in the region. Other brands might go up to 3XL max or offering oversized items that are generally accepted on thin bodies in terms of fit. Others might offer a minimal number of plus size items that are often found in a classical style, upstairs in a store or in some corner.

Tell us about the design procedure you follow as a team.

When it comes to plus size designs, we have the know-how, since plus size fashion design needs specific requirements in terms of patternmaking, grading, choice of textile and styling. Proportions are carefully considered in order to accommodate a larger body.

Also, SIZEPICO is not just another fashion brand in the market. Our fashionable pieces can be an oversize option for men and women regardless of their actual size. In this era where oversized clothing is in, the market needed a brand with a soul, and SIZEPICO is proud to deliver just that. The most important benefit is that Sizepico can make them feel confident and comfortable. The clothes aren’t just about the size, therefore you won’t see our items labeled with the sizes we are used to. Instead, we have a playful message showing the dots of our brand’s identity that would eventually hint to the size of the item itself.

What inspires you to come up with a new collection?

We are mainly inspired by the bold and hasty lifestyle of the Arab youth, their unmatched ambition and their aspiration for change.

How do you plan to expand in plus-size fashion?

We are focused on creating capsule collections catering to the plus-size community in the Arab region for now, breaking the cycle of frustration that comes with the shopping experience, and providing individuals with more plus-size clothing options whether classical items or bold pieces. Sizepico is a step away from the consumer, available online on our website www.sizepico.com and on our Instagram and Tiktok pages, @sizepico. We are also available at Homegrown Hayy in Jeddah.

Is there a special message you would like to communicate to Middle Eastern plus-size men and women?

Sizepico exists to provide the plus-size community with fashionable pieces but never compromising on comfort and fit. We want our people to feel hip and trendy, and to go that extra mile when it comes to physical appearance; self-confidence and body positivity all the way!
