Amidst the raw beauty of AlUla and its enigmatic wonder, Maison Rami Kadi unveiled “Les Miroirs” collection for Spring-Summer 2024. Being the first Arab designer to partner with the Royal Commission for AlUla and AlUla Moments, Rami Kadi’s collection, consisting of 40 exquisite gowns – 10 of which were exclusively designed for the occasion, was certainly off the charts.

Azyaa Mode was present to witness this success and got the opportunity to run a conversation with the designer in order to explore this collection and the inspiration behind it.  

What inspired you to design a collection that reinterprets the landscapes of AlUla?

The inspiration behind designing a collection that reinterprets the landscapes of AlUla stems from the region's unparalleled beauty and cultural richness. AlUla's landscapes, with their ancient petroglyphs, striking rock formations, and lush oases, serve as a canvas of inspiration for creativity. The desire to capture the essence of AlUla's timeless allure and translate it into couture pieces is what drove me to embark on this design journey. By infusing elements of AlUla's landscapes into the collection, I aim to pay homage to the region's heritage and celebrate its enduring spirit and beauty through fashion.

How were you able to translate this source of inspiration in your choice of material?

Translating the inspiration from AlUla's landscapes into my choice of materials involved a meticulous selection process. I sought materials that not only reflected the natural beauty of the region but also embodied its essence. Holographic materials, recycled plastics, and shattered glass were chosen to evoke the shimmering mirages and reflective surfaces found in AlUla's landscape. Additionally, the use of crepe georgette and intricate macramé techniques symbolizes the delicate interplay of light and shadow, reminiscent of the region's rocky formations and verdant oasis. Each material was carefully chosen to capture the unique textures and colors of AlUla, ensuring that the collection authentically reflects the mystical allure of the region's landscapes.

Tell us about the accessories that you designed for this collection.

For this collection, I focused on designing statement earrings and intricate headpieces as accessories. Crafted with silver and gold, these pieces echo the timeless elegance and cultural richness of AlUla. Inspired by the region's architectural wonders and desert flora, each accessory pays homage to the diverse elements that define AlUla's landscape.

What is the message you would like to communicate through this Spring-Summer 2024 collection?

Through the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, I want to showcase the timeless beauty and cultural richness of AlUla. Each piece celebrates the region's heritage and natural landscapes, aiming to inspire appreciation for tradition, modernity, and the importance of preserving our planet's treasures.

What makes this collection a true bearer of the signature of Rami Kadi?

This collection embodies the signature style of Rami Kadi through its fusion of innovation, luxury, and cultural inspiration. The meticulous attention to detail, innovative use of materials, and exquisite craftsmanship are all hallmarks of my design aesthetic. Additionally, the collection's celebration of cultural heritage and commitment to sustainability reflect values that are deeply ingrained in the ethos of Maison Rami kadi. Overall, this collection is a true reflection of my creative vision and commitment to pushing the boundaries of haute couture.

Is there a message you would like to send to the Arab women and what is it?

To all Arab women, I would like to convey a message of empowerment, confidence, and self-expression. Embrace your heritage, celebrate your individuality, and never be afraid to express yourself through fashion. Remember to always stay true to yourself, follow your dreams, and inspire others along the way.
