Take Your Time

Bigger is apparently better. The phenomenon of big watch faces hasn’t gone away and by the looks of it, oversized watches are here to stay. Let’s look at a few such time-tellers.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its first in-house quartz movement, Piaget unveiled a 118-piece limited edition of its novelty, the Emperador Coussin XL 700P. According to its makers, the watch features an “unusual match between mechanical caliber and generator."

Jaquet Droz draws inspiration from a bird for its Charming Bird watch. Having done years of research to develop this unique watch, Jaquet Droz celebrates two key innovations. The song of the bird is generated by air compression instead of vibration, while the regulator harnesses a magnetic effect to eliminate auditory interference with the timepiece. The miniature bird sculpture owes its beauty and craftsmanship to the Ateliers d’Art. The movement is hand-embellished and hand-painted, featuring engraved mother-of-pearl that evokes the Swiss countryside and Jaquet Droz motif. The art of engraving and miniature painting meld with impeccable richness in this creative timepiece.

With Project Z10, Harry Winston carries on with its mission to design exceptional timepieces. The openwork dial crafted in a blue anodized aluminum structure and an advanced mechanical aesthetic is the manifesto of this watch. Despite being an exclusive complication, the Z10 is versatile and hinges on comfort and ergonomics. Inspired by the Manhattan Bridge, the design recalls the ambitious work of the early steel era, and reflects it through the case, strap, dial, display, and movement. Other interesting timepieces come from industry leaders such as Piaget, Bulgari, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger Le-Coultre, Patek Philippe, among others.
