Styling the Front of your Hair

You could spend hours at the salon or at home styling your hair, but if the front section is not right what’s the point? The front is what frames your face and the first thing people see, or more importantly it’s what takes central stage in your selfies! Here are a few tips to get it right every time.

Probably 90% of the time that I get my hair styled at a salon I come home and fix the front. My hair is really curly but pretty easy to blow dry. What most stylists skip is straightening out the roots. Some go as far as using a small flat iron and going through the baby hairs, but that just makes it super flat. If you look at my old pictures I have straight hair but with a little bit of a curl at the roots, sounds horrible, right? One day at a salon a stylist showed me a trick that was a game changer. Using a very thin round brush, she would grab the root of the hair combing it front, and then quickly switching to going back. If you want to practice just make a circle with your wrist. Get your brush to grip about an inch of the front, and then apply heat with the blow dryer with a nozzle to straighten out the kink. Be careful not to burn your hair and also without a nozzle your hair can get stuck in the blow dryer and get burnt; believe me, I speak from experience.

To add volume, switch to a large brush. Section off an inch of the front of your hair, think of the area where you would cut bangs. Blow dry your hair up and back, and roll the brush and keep it in like a roller. Wait a few seconds so it can cool and set. Remove it, and you will have instant volume.

Finally, for curling your hair, make sure your wand is facing down. Also start your curl at about the beginning of your brows, this way the front is flat to make it look more natural.
