Gucci Takes its Cruise 2019 Show to France

France keeps gaining huge momentum, as three of the most important fashion Houses have displayed their Cruise 2019 collections there – from Dior to Louis Vuitton and now Gucci.

We’re just going to throw it out there: Alessandro Michele is a master of spectacles, and his latest show for Gucci was no exception. Held at the heart of the Promenade des Alyscamps in Arles, France, the House’s Cruise 2019 show was nothing short of what we would have come to expect from Michele: gothic references and a big fat nod to the 19th century. A treat for sore eyes.

Then again, just a few days ago, the House announced that it would display its Spring-Summer 2019 show during Paris Fashion Week, as part of a three-part homage to France. So yeah, basically, the location served as a mystical backdrop for the show, as models sashayed their way onto a runway clouded by smoke, candles and references to ancient times. The collection was no different than the theme – a beautiful combination between gothic and streetwear that featured high-collared Victorian gowns, floral silk prints, leopard leggings and velvet dresses. There were embroidered capes that were so overwhelmingly fascinating one could have easily mistaken them for ancient costumes. Along came tiger patterns and models holding on tight to big flower bouquets. Denim jackets, fringed dresses and sequined pants were all part of Michele’s lexicon – and it was all very charmingly Gucci.
