Beauty Tip of the Week – Beauty Kit Hygiene

Whether you’re a makeup artist or not, makeup hygiene is crucial in order to protect both yourself and your products.
We see a lot of master classes and makeup tutorials which help us learn new tips and tricks; unfortunately, a major point which is left out is how to keep our products and tools clean. This point is also essential when shopping for makeup and testing products at a makeup counter.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to keep your skin and makeup bag clean and happy.

1- Always wash your hands before putting on your makeup.
The same applies to when you get your makeup done by a professional. Make sure the artist has washed his/her hands or sanitized them.

2- Make sure your brushes are always clean.
It’s important to give your personal brushes a good wash with shampoo every once in a while, in addition to regular cleansing after each use with a brush cleanser. This gets rid of bacteria that can inevitably cling to your brush and potentially cause breakouts.

3- Replace sponges.
Whether it’s your own Beauty Blender, or that of a professional, ensure it is clean and used exclusively on you. A makeup artist or the beauty counter should have a stash of disposable sponges for each client/model.
If it’s your own, it can be used a few times until you feel that it’s time to replace it with a fresh one (a smell check is enough).

4- Sanitize Lipsticks, Eye pencils
This is easy, every once in a while, dip your lipstick in medical alcohol especially if the lipstick is shared. The same applies to eye pencils; dip in alcohol and sharpen.

5-Keep your eyes safe
Hygiene is crucial when it comes to eye products.
Never share a mascara, and if you’re shopping for one, test a mascara using a disposable wand.
