Summer is well underway, and the most important step you could make right now is to protect your skin from the sun. As the temperature is rising and your calendar gets filled with outdoor activities and beach days, the first item on your list of must-haves is your sunscreen. So, how to choose the right one and wear it properly? Let us remind you of these golden rules!

  • Make sure the sunscreen you choose is 30 SPF or higher.
  • Opt for a product that provides your skin with both UVA and UVB protection in order to avoid sunburn and skin damage and decrease the risk of skin cancer.
  • Apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before going out to give your skin the time to absorb it.
  • Don’t be stingy! In order for your sunscreen to be effective, you should apply an abundant quantity of it. Draw 2 lines of sunscreen on your fingers and distribute them on the different areas of your face. According to the area you would like to protect, you can easily go up to 1 ounce of sunscreen, which is equivalent to the size of a golf ball.
  • To ensure full protection, reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. However, some cases call for faster reapplication such as using spray sunscreen, swimming or sweating. In these cases, reapply your sunscreen every 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Don’t forget your lips and use a lip balm with SPF 30 at least to protect them as well.
  • Remember that sunscreen is not a magic potion. So, take your protection to another level by wearing a hat – a stylish one of course!
