Runway

Saint Laurent Spring-Summer 2019 Collection

With the beautiful backdrop of the Eiffel Tour and a water catwalk, who wouldn’t want to pull a Parisienne? With that in mind, Anthony Vaccarello’s runway was on fire.

The collection was a wide mixture of cultural references, starting with a Parisian vibe shining through sultry mini bodycon dresses, alongside a series of trousers paired with button down shirts and gilets. The models strutted their good looks down the runway in snakeskin boots and scarves tied around their necks. Vaccarello resumed his trip down memory lane with mini shift dresses reminiscent of the sixties, and then moved on to an eclectic Americana vibe, mostly apparent through denim shorts, silk blouses and red hats. Hints of Moliere-like garments were injected into the collection, what with the abundance of ruffled pussybow blouses and leather shorts. There were also charming starred motifs taking over some of the dresses in a beautifully contrasting way.

The evening section was filled with a galore of sheer maxi dresses and one particular jaw-dropping one-shouldered gold dress that was exploding with glitters. Along came swimsuits with plunging necklines, swaying from black tones to leopard patterns and sequined ones.

The cherry on top of this whimsical cake? Kaia Gerber closed the show in a white tuxedo paired with leather shorts and sky-high platforms. Because yes, Saint Laurent’s edginess will always prevail.
