Givenchy Spring-Summer 2019 Collection

Clare Waight-Keller’s take on the Givenchy woman was a sultry version of androgyny; i.e, the woman who didn’t necessarily need to wear a dress to get in touch with her femininity.

That said, the collection included army pants tucked at the waist with thick belts, leather perfectos and trench-coats and a plethora of pared-down dresses. The models sported a bob cut – reminiscent of a boyish hairdo – and had this “new androgynous vibe” going on. There were button down shirts, cut-out tops paired with high-waisted trousers and flared jumpsuits that featured a mix of block colors. The dresses, on the other hand, were subtle enough to express stillness but sultry enough to expose their hidden femininity. Colors skewed from navy blue, to lighter tones of blue, yellow shades to green ones. One dress in particular featured a sparkly metallic fabric that cascaded in fringes from the waist down. The designer’s boy/girl theme revealed nothing less than elegance.
