Nicole Kidman Presented the Musketeer's Cup and its Louis Vuitton Trophy Case at Roland-Garros

Roland-Garros, one of the most prestigious events for tennis enthusiasts and the Men’s Singles Final of the tennis French Open, has unveiled special trunks for its trophies, especially made by Louis Vuitton. And on June 11, actress Nicole Kidman graced the tournament with her presence as she presented the Musketeers’ Cup and its Louis Vuitton trophy case.

As a nod to the French’s know-how, Louis Vuitton crafted two trophy trunks- one for the Suzanne Lenglen Cup and the other for the Musketeers’ Cup- making way for a unique collaboration between the two French brands. The trophies themselves were actually manufactured by the Maison Mellerio, the oldest jeweler and goldsmith in the world, and were subject to infinite hours of work. Indeed, the Tournament has paid homage to three elitist French brands, Louis Vuitton, Mellerio and Roland-Garros and has brought them together in a unifying event to promote an irrevocable French legacy.

The cases, on the other hand, were handcrafted in Louis Vuitton’s historic workshops in Asnières to protect Roland-Garros’ trophies with their iconic Monogram canvas and the signature brass corners and lock. Their interior is colored in Terracotta, while a “V” evoking the lines on a tennis court adorns its front. To top it all, Vik Muniz, the visual artist who created the 2017 Roland-Garros poster added his personal touch to the cases before the women’s and men’s singles finals.

Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton commented: “Louis Vuitton has always supported the greatest explorers and pioneers on their travels, including Roland Garros and Suzanne Lenglen themselves. Combining elegance and innovation, Louis Vuitton has constantly reinvented travel, just like Roland Garros did for aviation and Suzanne Lenglen for tennis. After taking the most prestigious trophies in the world of football, rugby and sailing to the four corners of the globe, we are extremely proud to be playing a part in 2017’s Roland-Garros tournament. It is an honor to design these bespoke cases that will transport and protect two famous international tennis trophies.”

“With Louis Vuitton and Roland-Garros, France is the winner, France is a source of wonder and inspiration. The partnership between two of the finest French brands is a symbol that will inspire the champions during the tournament fortnight. Our trophies have never been so beautiful as in this magnificent new case. It’s a fabulous highlight for Roland-Garros 2017,” stated Bernard Giudicelli, President of the French Tennis Federation.
