Lighting is a quintessential element in home décor and can enhance the beauty of your interiors if the right choices are made. Whether your house is traditional or contemporary, the right lighting changes its atmosphere and can even create a contrast with the style of your furniture.

Lighting comes in varied types and each one has its own purpose. You should mainly aim at minimizing the number of fixtures and maximize their effect. Another thing that you should take into consideration is the available natural light, as you should have adequate light in the living room and study room, while bathrooms and kitchen need task lighting. However, the bedrooms call for a different kind of lighting, as they are considered passive spaces and you should make sure to fill them with lamps that create a serene and soothing ambiance.

To help you out, we’re going to explore each one of them together and light up your house in the most convenient ways!

1 - One of the most common types of lighting is ambient lighting and it has a soft glow that enables you to function while keeping your eyes relaxed. Although it lights up the room properly, it is not ideal for working closely with things or highlighting a certain element in your décor.

2 – If your ceiling is high, chandeliers and pendants work perfectly well for literally every room in your house, as you are able to choose the intensity of light fixed in them. You can also install a button that allows you to turn the light up or down, according to your needs.

3 – Wall lights also work almost anywhere in your home, when used carefully of course. Avoid using too many in one location as they may cause harsh light, but when placed sparingly, they work great in hallways.

4 – Task lighting is a smaller, more concentrated light. Also called office lighting, it is meant to help you see clearly while working, reading, cooking… as it helps stimulate your brain and keep you concentrated.

5 – Vanity lights are the ultimate task lights. They add a unique flare to your space and provide you with the extra light you need in your dressing room, bathroom or kitchen.

6 – Accent lighting is a very concentrated type of light used to draw the attention to its focal point. It adds drama and style to the space, and highlights the pieces you display – whether we’re talking about artwork, a bookcase display or a piece of furniture. While it adds sophistication to your interior, it highlights the beautiful architecture of your house when used outdoors.
