La D de Dior Satine – Behind The Scenes

Welcome to D de Dior Satine’s world, where the timepieces are exquisite and the know-how behind their expertise is just priceless. Initially fashioned in 2003 by Victoire de Castellane, the D de Dior has constantly been subject to one too many iterations, worthy of the House’s timeless evolution.

This time around, the newfound iteration comes in the shape of a “ribbon of metal around the wrist”, known as a Milanese knit strap. But how can a perfectly aesthetical ribbon, channel its shine and suppleness unto something as delicate as a timepiece? The answer is as simple as the atelier’s knack for excellence, stretching the ribbon in light of traditional artisanal weaving techniques, notably that of passementerie. And so, magic is brought to life with a metal-knitting machine that creates a knit made of interwoven, articulated gold or steel filaments. Upon the completion of this particular task, the artisan proceeds by cutting bands from the precious fabric and hand-polishes it to perfection, instilling it with a timeless aesthetic.

“The little ribbon bow was always one of the most prized of women’s accessories. They exist in every size and almost every material. You can use them on sleeves, on wrists,” said Victoire de Castellane.

Another marvelous novelty, also known as “La Mini D De Dior Satine Tressée”, pays tribute to Couture and to Dior’s 70th anniversary and features a jewel bracelet in Polish mesh with an unmatched flexibility and shine. Consider it a magnificent interlacing of polished and chased gold threads. Our coup de Coeur? The precious bezel, crown and buckle set with diamonds, of course!

To top it all off, and in tune with the collection’s masculine-feminine codes, a new 36mm model of La D De Dior Satine comes to life with large dials in pink or white mother-of-pearl, while the gold and steel version is upholstered with an elegant yellow gold bezel and crown, alongside a diamond-set dial, bezel, crown and buckle.
