Kimonos: The Do’s and Don’ts

Kimono cardigans are yet another cross-cultural expression in the charming form of fashion. On a lighter note, this trend has invaded the runways for over two years now, but designers can’t seem to get enough of it! And we completely get it; kimonos look awesome on anything, whether they’re velvet or lace, fringe-embellished or multi-patterned. But most importantly, these cover-ups ad layers and textures to any outfit you might adorn.

If you’re a Coachella fan, then you’ve probably noticed the fury of kimonos paired with high-waisted shorts and crop tops. Who can blame festival-goers really? It’s a ravishing combination! But one wonders, what could be the Kimono do’s and don’ts?

Do choose the right kimono size; beware it shouldn’t be too tight. If it’s too tight, it defeats the purpose of a kimono.

Do pair your boho kimono with some sultry shorts, sundresses or mini-skirts. Showing off your legs under the voluptuous layer is a great asset and the layering effect balances out the overbearing skin.

Do choose a colorful kimono as to add a hint of vivacity to your outfit. Patterns go a long way! If you’re wearing a monochromatic outfit, break it even with a bold kimono cardigan.

Do double your kimono cardigan as a bathing suit cover up if it gets a little chilly out there.

Do belt your kimono over a pair of jeans as to highlight your waist. The crowning touch? A pair of those trending summery cowboy boots.

If you want to wear your soiree dress for a day out, do throw on a maxi kimono as to add a bit of nonchalance to your look.

Do wear a maxi kimono with a maxi dress for a 70’s boho-chic look.

Do tie your kimono in the front for an out-of-the-box silhouette .

Don’t go all matchy-matchy, choose a different pattern or color for your kimono.

Don’t dress out of proportion. In other words, make sure you wear form fitting clothes under your oversized kimono as to highlight your body. Always dress in a way that flatters your shape!

Are you ready for a Kimono summer?
