Curling Do’s and Dont’s

Ever since the first time I picked up a curling iron, I was hooked. I love how glamorous your hair looks after a few minutes of curling. I like to use it on second or third day hair, as the curl doesn’t hold as much on newly washed hair. I also love this as a quick fix in the morning when you don’t have time to touch up your blow dry.

Ever since the curling wand came out, curls changed to a beachier wave look, but I still go back and forth between both tools because I feel like the wand takes a little bit more time and smaller sections of hair. Anyway, always curl hair away from the face unless you are going for a retro look. To avoid the tight curls look with a curling wand, I like to use a thicker barrel depending on hair length. Always run your fingers through your hair to loosen up the curl. A more undone look is much more modern and natural.

I also like to use the curling iron when I want more volume. So, start off with a heat protectant; my favorites are by Chi and Redken. End the look with a soft hair spray, especially in the front to keep the pieces from straightening out. Try to keep your hands off your hair after you have loosened the curls to prevent frizziness.
