Yes, you read right. Berluti’s shoemaker Patrick Rock lands in the UAE, offering his audience the House’s shoemaking expertise, from the artisanal expertise to the the irreverent creativity.
So what sets Berluti’s expertise apart? Not only is the footwear hand-assembled, but the shoes are also customizable in terms of leather and patinas, allowing them to earn the “one of a kind” title. And to top it all off, they are made exactly to fit the morphology of the client’s foot. Need we say more? The steps are actually very simple; client meets shoemaker, shoemaker listens to client’s need, shoemaker designs said piece.
Indeed, the design process starts with the shaping of the ”last”, also known as the wooden form, which is formed to match the morphology of the foot. Once the 1st step is achieved, the pattern-cutter coats the last with an adhesive canvas and the upper part of the shoe is formed by sewing pieces of leather together. Along comes the first fitting, where the client is reqired to try on a prototype of the shoe to evaluate its fit. Should there be any further alterations or requests, crafts are always happy to oblige! Lastly, the client selects the “patina” which is then applied to the shoes, lending them a unique personality. Said patina is special because of its authenticity and is available in a series of shades, from Autumn Leaf to Caviar, Saint-Emilion Red, Nero Gigio and Tobacco Bis brown. Each pair of shoes is given to the client in a Venezia Scritto leather box engraved with the name of the owner. A truly exceptional process!
