A Conversation with Georges Hobeika

You’ve heard his name so many times, it would actually be pretty hard not to recognize his designs. Lebanese-born designer Georges Hobeika has long been branded with many amazing characteristics that define his presence in the fashion industry. And while elegance, sophistication, fine embroideries and embellishments are part of his lexicon, so is his grasp of the red carpet – think the likes of Izabel Goulart, Jennifer Lopez and Diane Kruger.

Fit for a modern-day princess, Hobeika’s diaphanous designs have reached international grounds and now, for the second time, the designer has collaborated with Swarovski’s Sparkling Couture Infinity exhibition to design a piece using Swarovski crystals.

Below, Georges Hobeika shares the details of the collaboration, his inspirations and more!

This is the second collaboration with Swarovski’s Sparkling Couture Infinity exhibition. How were you approached the first time around?

Maison GEORGES HOBEIKA has been a proud partner of Swarovski for over 25 years. Joining the celebration of Swarovski's 120th anniversary, Maison Georges Hobeika has been anticipating its second collaboration with the Sparkling Couture Infinity Exhibition. I was actually featured as a Guest of Honor and displayed a couture piece that I created exclusively for the event.

Can you tell us more about this year’s collaboration? What is it like creating a bespoke piece using Swarovski crystals?

This year's collaboration is very special. It’s our second time participating in this event, and I love the opportunity to create an exclusive work of fashion art, using Swarovski crystals.

Tell us more about the fabrics and styles you used to create the piece?

This unique, hooded cape is made of beige lace and is embroidered with 75,000 Swarovski crystals that are designed as Andalusian chandelier motifs.

Where did you draw inspiration from while creating this mélange?

The stunning piece was inspired by the magic of the Andalusian chandelier that is characterized by its mystical effect of light and shade, which creates a dramatic, eccentric mood.

Could you describe the piece in one word?

Majestic!

What do you think defines you as a designer?

My style and Haute Couture craftsmanship define me as a designer. A GEORGES HOBEIKA creation voices the unique and captivating contrast of quintessential grace and contemporary structure.
