What It Takes to Create a Rose Des Vents Jewelry Piece

“Rose des Vents, the wind rose, is also a metaphor for creation,” explains Victoire de Castellane. “Creating is about searching, turning things over, and then finding one cardinal point and setting off on a journey. Creation is the product of a stationary voyage.”

Inspired by this vision and a gouache sketch, the journey starts by cutting out the jewel by hand in a malleable green resin. Afterwards, the artisan jeweler uses an age-old lost wax technique which is later replaced with gold and left to the careful rework of the artisan, who redefines the piece’s details. The finish of the edges is subject to the same careful attention paid to the lining of a clothing piece.

To make this medallion as stunning as it can be, Victoire de Castellane designed a twisted rope of gold rice grains to encircle it.  And if the wearer’s movement dictates, the raised star in yellow, white or rose gold will never fail to charm you with its irresistible finesse.
