Waist Belts – The Cardinal Do’s and Don’ts

If you’re sitting on your couch, already day-dreaming about all the runway and street style shots you’ve been eyeing, then worry not…so are we.

That said, if there’s one thing we’ve noticed on the latest runways, it’s probably the plethora of retro styles that bring back the sweet memories of the sixties, seventies, all the way to the nineties. And can we blame the industry really? It’s during these fabulous decades that fashion icons such as Cher, Pattie Boyd, Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn and so many more beauties made quite the impression on the world we know today. Now one trend we’ve had our eyes on – and that has taken the world by storm – is the cinched waist trend. Indeed, if you look in the archives of the fashion industry, sifting through the countless fashion shows, you’ll notice how silhouettes are more often than not turned into hour-glass figures, through the magic of waist belts. Care to know more about them? Here are our cardinal do’s and don’ts!

Do start off by getting yourself a belt that suits your body… one that is not too tight and not too large. Long story short, you don’t want to deform your body.

Don’t underestimate the power of the belt style. You want something that screams modernity but also something that goes with the mood of your clothes. So examine well your chosen style and let it guide you through the belt-picking process.

Do place your belt atop an oversized blazer to make the androgynous look more sensual. Our own advice? Pick a blazer dress and cinch it like you’ve never cinched anything before!

Don’t pull a 2000s look by adding a waist-belt to your already fit-form dress. Just don’t.

Do add a belt to a beautiful flowy bohemian dress for extra zest. Add some western boots to the mix and you are golden!
