Those Curls Are Real and Here’s the Secret behind Them

After a few cold months and the challenge of keeping our skin well-moisturized, it’s now time to get ready to face the heat of summer with healthy hair. Believe it or not, ditching shampoo is the best thing I have ever done in my whole life and I’ll tell you all about it!

After feeling that my hair lost its curls and looked drier that it has ever been, I read about co-washing as a part of the Curly Girl Method based on Lorraine Massey’s book entitled “Curly Girl: The Handbook”. Although it was pretty challenging, I decided to give it a go. Before doing so, I did what is called the final wash, using a silicone-free and high-in-sulfate shampoo. And that’s when my journey with co-washing started. “Co-washing” is short for “conditioner-only washing” and only women can assume how moisturizing this can be for the hair. I’ve got to say that the first few times were not as pleasant as the result was and yet, I’ve managed to go through with my decision.

I started my routine with a mild cleaning conditioner followed by another round of thicker conditioner which I left on my wet hair for a few minutes. When in need for deep hair cleaning, low-poos were my go-to products as they are free of sulfate, silicone and drying alcohol and I made sure to use those only once a week. Paired with a weekly deep conditioning treatment, my hair started to gain back its glow and curls.

While this brought me so much joy, the products I used might not suit your hair type. Therefore, the only way to find out is to try some out and this, I’ve got to tell you, is no piece of cake! Are you ready to take the challenge?
