Suits for men are always a classic option. They come in classic colors such as black, grey, navy and brown. As for the blouses that come beneath them, they are usually either white or blue. So, the only element that can add some pizzazz to your outfit is the tie and we’re going to provide you with some tips to choose the perfect one.

Patterns are the first factor to take into consideration when it comes to pairing your suit with the right tie. If your suit or shirt are patterned, avoid ties with the same type of patterns. For instance, if your suit is striped, avoid striped ties and go for one with a paisley pattern instead. This will create a movement that eyes find attractive. And if both your shirt and suit are patterned, going for a solid-colored tie is the most valid choice.

Colors come next and since the suit is the largest clothing item, it will be the starting point. Then, pick two of your dress shirts that best match the suit. Finally, choose a few ties and go for the one that your first impression dictates so you can pull off this look with confidence, while avoiding the ones that could overpower your suit. Remember, ties accentuate your look, it should not dominate it as it will draw attention away from your face and you certainly don’t want that!

You also saw that skinny tie and you liked it so much but don’t know if you can pull it off? Well, you’re absolutely right as making this decision calls for some thinking. While standard ties come with a 3.5-inch width, skinny ones are usually less than 3 inches wide and excessively wide ones can exceed 3.75 inches. Thin ties are best suited for a thin petite man while large men with a wider build should go for standard or wide tones. It’s all about proportions!
