Skincare and Makeup While Wearing a Mask

When COVID-19 first started, none of us was aware of how important wearing a mask would become in our daily life. Now that we experienced what this could entail, we need to get our beauty priorities straight!

After I started to wear a mask, breakouts have become uncontrollable – which made me realize that a certain skincare routine should be followed. Calling it “maskne”, my dermatologist suggested a few amendments in my skincare and makeup routines that I am happy to share with you. Please keep in mind that these tips might change from a person to another, so make sure to consult your dermatologist before making any changes to your routines.

So, in order to give my complexion its health back, here is what the specialist suggested:

  • Avoid harsh scrubs and thick creams. A gentle cleanser, a hydrating toner and a light serum with soothing ingredients applied at least five minutes before wearing a mask is the first step towards a healthy skin.
  • If you experience any redness and swelling caused by the mask, apply some ice cubes directly to your face for a few minutes.
  • While we are all opting now for cotton face masks instead of medical ones, make sure to wash yours regularly using hot water and a fragrance-free detergent.
  • Foundation clogs your pores when you’re not wearing a mask, so imagine its effect when you are! Therefore, avoid wearing any under your mask to avoid breakouts or stick to a light-weight one with a water-based formula if necessary.

Now that your eyes are the center of attention, get creative with your eye makeup and bold with your lashes – if you’d like to – while making sure your brows stay in shape.
