My Jewelry Obsession – All About Cocktail Rings

When we talk about cocktail rings, we know that we’re talking about collectable items that only real jewelry enthusiasts appreciate in beauty and value. In fact, nothing is more exquisite and sophisticated than a cocktail ring, and there are so many reasons that allow us to say that. Here are some of them:

First of all, cocktail rings are historical pieces. Yes, remember those huge finger sparklers Daisy from “The Great Gatsby” used to wear? Well believe it or not, these pieces used to be worn by noblemen in European courts in ancient times, until the ‘20s came along and the American Prohibition era started, paving the way for a rebellion wave that made women the wearers of such eloquent designs at parties in secret. And this was in fact the reason they didn’t become a trend until the 1950s.

Aesthetically speaking, cocktail rings were oversized, showy and elegant pieces characterized by a big diamond or gem – such as emerald and sapphire – set in platinum or gold and surrounded by pave diamonds. While nowadays this design has become rare because of the decreasing availability of large gems, other more elaborate and sophisticated designs made their way to the jewelry industry – proving that when it comes to cocktail rings, the bigger, the better.

And thanks to the innovative setting and enameling techniques that are gracing this field, women have endless style options. From the closely set stones that produce the same dramatic effect, to the enameling that allows to create different textures, cocktail rings have become real works of art embodying natural objects such as animals and flowers that are worthy of every true jewelry enthusiast’s collection.
