Homemade Scrub? Yes Please!

We, women, all love pampering ourselves, and using a shower scrub is one of the ways for us to enjoy fresh, vibrant skin. Imagine the scrub you’re using is prepared by you, from the comfort of your own home and most importantly, is chemical-free! That’s a dream coming true, right?

Well, we’re more than glad to tell you that there is nothing easier than preparing a scrub at home!
First, choose the exfoliant – or in other terms, the gritty substance that will help you get rid of the dead skin cells – and make sure to choose right by deciding which body part you’ll scrub:
- Salt helps rid the body of toxins and acts as an anti-inflammatory for sore muscles.
- Sugar is less abrasive, which makes it perfect for the face and sensitive skin – let alone the wonderful scent that brown ones add to the mix.
- Oatmeal is the gentlest and moisturizing exfoliant.
- As for ground coffee, it has amazing benefits such as improving blood circulation and helping lessen the appearance of cellulite, but tends to feel harsh on sensitive skin so make sure to ground it really well in the mixer.

Now let’s talk about oils! Besides moisturizing the skin, oil holds the mixture together.
1 cup of exfoliant requires 1/3 cup of oil, which is best bought pure and unrefined. Moisturizing and thick, coconut oil can be used alone or paired with other oils, depending on the desired consistency of the scrub. And to make sure it’s unrefined, it should have that breathtaking coconut smell.
For dry and mature skin, use avocado oil which is thick and rich in proteins, omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants.
A medium consistency can be acquired by sweet almond oil and in addition to its amazing nutty scent, it leaves your skin very soft especially when mixed with thicker oils that help it penetrate the skin more deeply.
And for those with nut allergies, the easily accessible olive oil has its own benefits but is not easily absorbed by the skin, so we suggest you use it before bedtime.

Scrubs should not only be beneficial, but should also have a great fragrance that lighten your mood and that’s the reason behind using essential oils.
While oily skin is best treated with a scrub containing sandalwood, lemon and lavender essential oils, dehydrated skin requires rose and patchouli.
On a more spiritual level, a mix of bergamot, lemon and orange will definitely boost your mood, rosemary, lavender and clary sage will relieve your stress and romance will shine through a mix of jasmine, neroli and rose.
