Not all of us are fancy hair stylists, and that’s why we keep our weekly appointments with our hairdressers. But what if we gave you some tips on how you can try and become your own hairstyle guru at home? Wouldn’t you try them out? I know I will. And in hopes that you will too, here’s the gist of what you need to know.

Who doesn’t have a blow dryer at home? Yours might not be the latest technology, but you should definitely know how to use it! We’re not only talking about drying it, but also about styling it. After drying your hair, apply some heat protectant and some mousse if it tends to look flat after styling. Then, brush it in order to make straightening easier using a brush made of boar or natural bristles as these give the hair a natural shine like no other. Take a comb and start dividing your hair at the temple – making a 5-cm-wide partition. Using a clip, keep the rest out of the way and start straightening your hair using the flat iron evenly over the entire head and making two or three passes over each hair section. To perfect your straight hairstyle, focus on the front by starting to straighten the hair right at the hairline. If the hair starts to get too hot, let it fall on a comb and continue.

On another note, some women prefer their hair curly and the secret to achieving the perfect curls is by using a conical, small-diameter curling iron. Start off by thoroughly working a generous amount of curling mousse on your hair – equally covering the front and the back. To achieve a modern look, roll the hair sections onto the curler in all directions but make sure that the front ones are rolled to the back.

The same technique applies to achieving the perfect wavy hair. However, the use of a large-diameter curling iron is required. For additional volume, don’t underestimate the power of a volumizing styling powder.
