From the first look of its Couture Spring-Summer 2023 collection show, Dior stole the lights with the exquisite black bodysuit it showcased. In collaboration with Atelier Cadolle, the last remaining workshop in Paris that still makes made-to-measure lingerie, the French House set off from a piece from the archive designed back in the fifties. It revived the smocking technique, executed with elastic threads designed to make ruched fabrics that stretch. However, small details can easily turn things around if not planned carefully. From the type of fabric to the needed thickness and puffiness, and everything in between, decisions might take a lot of experimenting to be made. Yet, as we all witnessed, the result was perfect as always.
