Dior Couture Fall/Winter 2020-2021

As the world is going through an unprecedented period, Dior takes us on a magical journey where art reigns supreme. For the house’s Fall/Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri not only drew inspiration from the work of artists such as Lee Miller, Dora Maar and Jacqueline Lamba, but also made them the stars of their world and the haute couture’s.

A different kind of femininity sets the tone for this collection and a certain attitude runs through this haute couture marvel, one that is tightly connected to nature and transformation – resulting in a few pieces that display swooning gradations of red. On another note, other creations evoked the Théatre de la Mode exhibition that took place right after the war and displayed the styles of French couturiers. That’s when suits in men’s fabric made quite an appearance with their exceptional architecture, followed by a coat with pleated layers and draping details that evoke antique statues. Luminosity took over with gray and golden yellow tones, adding brilliance to this scintillating collection.

And for the grand finale, a wedding gown embodied the essence of couture through each and every one of its details, reviving time-old, forgotten traditions. And the fact that all these silhouettes are showcased on miniature fashion dolls that reinterpret mannequins in an ode to the couture universe makes this journey truly exceptional.
