Dior Couture Fall/Winter 2019-2020 Collection

Inspired by the ever-so iconic “Caryatids”, Dior’s Couture Fall/Winter 2019-2020 Collection paid homage to Ancient Greek architecture with fashion and art. The beautiful amalgamation of these two worlds was playfully added to the sculptures – statues that supported the architecture of ancient temples – creating some sort of instant relation to the role women play both in architecture and in society.

As expected, Maria GraziaChiuri put this metaphor to good use, sending out models at the heart of 30 Avenue Montaigne, a location that has come to be an iconic one in Dior’s history. The tribute to the elements was therefore apparent through a series of one-shouldered Greek-inspired dresses, maxi skirts that resembled Greek drapes and paired with modern slogan tees, fringed leather pieces that topped sheer polka dot blouses and finally, cinched at the waist coats. Models were wearing net stockings from head-to-toe – literally – and sashayed their way onto the runway in gladiator sandals. The gowns were by definition splendidly bold, with an attention to detail like no other. The cave-like venue welcomed models wearing a powerful and dark color palette, where clothes, berets and other accessories seemed to communicate the power of women.
