Bye Bye Sugar

We all have that one skinny friend that has cut out sugar, but what does that really mean? Celebrities like JLo swear by doing this once in a while, but is it as brutal as it sounds? Let’s find out.
I know what you are thinking, don’t we need sugar for energy? Well yes! But not as much as we are eating. Easy, just switch to sugar free, right? Not so fast! Those fake sugars aren’t good for you and can cause hunger cravings as well. The best approach is going cold turkey so you can decrease your cravings. Some doctors say you can change your addiction in just 10 days and that sounds pretty doable right? Yes, because the more sugar you eat the more addicted you are, so if you stop eating it the opposite will happen.
What exactly are you cutting out? Sodas and other sweet drinks, anything with added sugar or flour and, yes, that includes bread.
Craving something besides water? How about a green juice? Remember we are rewiring our taste buds.
So what are we eating? Try adding protein to every meal. Start off with eggs, a handful of nuts and seeds for snacks, fish, chicken or meat. Along with these, load up on non-starchy vegetables. Yes, we know potato is a vegetable, but avoid that and eat things like asparagus, zucchini, eggplant instead. There are so many vegetables out there that maybe you should try something new for the first time.
P.S. Gluten and dairy are out too; I know it sounds hard, but remember the major detox is only for 10 days and you will notice how great you feel and look.
As far as fruit goes, stick to berries and other fruits that are low on the glycemic index. Some people choose to cut out fruit completely during these 10 days, but you should talk to your doctor before making any major changes to your diet.
