Books We Love – Dior by Roger Vivier

“My friend Roger Vivier puts shoes on the most elegant feet in the world, helping me to realize my dream of dressing the “Christian Dior”. This is what Monsieur Dior wrote in his memoires and indeed, this collaboration between the house and the famed shoe designer helped give the Dior look its finishing touch from 1953 until 1963.

Published by Rizzoli, this book explores the numerous affinities Roger Vivier and Christian Dior shared. It retraces this historic collaboration by featuring the footwear designer’s first shoes that appeared on Dior’s Fall/Winter runway in July 1953, as well as everything that inspired Roger Vivier – such as Monsieur Dior’s favorite flower which appeared as a silky ornament on a delicate pair of sandals.

This release also highlights the boldness of the famed shoe designer in breaking the boundaries of creativity by designing masterpieces, from the C-shaped Choc heel that he designed for the Spring-Summer 1959 collection to the Tibet heel, which was lower and shaped like an inverted pyramid and the Virgule heel created in 1962.

With engaging texts by Elizabeth Semmelhack, this book counts the creative friendship between two true icons in the French fashion history.

Everything You Need to Know About Relieving Wedding Stress

Having wedding jitters is completely normal and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. But there’s also a fine line between stressing and being completely out of your mind trying to bend over backwards to achieve perfection – because we all know that there’s no such thing as pleasing everyone.

And perhaps the most stress-inducing period is the time leading up to the big wedding day, when you’re so overwhelmed with last-minute preparations that you don’t really know what day it is, let alone your name. That’s why it’s always well advised that brides take a moment to relax and think about the bigger picture here: they’re celebrating the beginning of a very beautiful journey with their other-halves, and there’s really no reason as to why they should overthink anything. But since we know you, beautiful bride-to-be, we thought it best to highlight a few tips and tricks to get you through the tough period with zen and grace.

  1. Wedding preps are part of a journey you should be enjoying, because looking back, you will be longing for the “simpler times”. And so, keep in mind that losing sleep over your wedding day/night is never a good idea.  At the end of the day, all what matters is that you’re surrounded by your future husband, your family and friends and you will get through it all together.
  2. If all the “zen” talk is not doing it for you, remember that preparing a checklist can help you out. A lot. So take notes of all the things you need to do and prioritize the essentials by order of importance
  3. Delegating tasks doesn’t mean you’re a bad bride/planner. It just means that you’re smart enough not to overwhelm yourself with unnecessary shenanigans. Enter the maid of honor. Give her some tasks – which we’re sure she’ll be happy to do – and don’t forget that you can always count on the groom and on your family as well.
  4. If you want a stress-free planning period, then always allot time to your fiancé. Schedule date nights, squeeze in some quality time with him and make sure you share with him your worries and concerns to put him in the loop of the latest happenings. Who knows, maybe he can even help!
  5. Take some time to think about yourself as well. Put yourself first and pamper yourself with a spa day or a yoga session.

Beach Fun – 5 Activities Your Kids Would Enjoy

School is over and your kids have become frequent visitors of the beach. Their visits are now a daily routine to enjoy the sun with their friends and have some fun. So, it’s your turn to play the superhero and guide them through some activities that bring out their sense of competition.

Want some ideas? Here are a few that will make this task easier on you! Keep in mind that competitions bring out the best in your children while teaching them to have a sense of sportsmanship.

  • Organize a castle building competition. Playing with sand is already a great pleasure for your kids and one could only imagine how enjoyable it would be for them to compete for building the most beautiful sand castle.
  • If your kids were old enough, encourage them to be adventurous and avoid being the kind of moms who transfer their fears to their children. Snorkeling, diving or even learning how to swim without floats can be some of their great pleasures!
  • If you feel that your little ones spend a lot of screen time at home, it’s good to take advantage of this beach trip to allow them to grow some muscle. Explain to them that tablets are for indoors and beach trips are for more exciting and fun activities. Hit the beach and take a walk on the sand with them as this will be a great exercise for their legs.
  • Back to the concept of competitions! Let them participate in a swimming competition in the pool with their friends, after which the winner gets a small reward. It’s all about the incentive!
  • Kids love jumping in the pool and watching the water splash everywhere, so why don’t you hire a professional to teach them how to jump in creative ways and watch them impress their friends.

Details that Would Make Your Summer Wedding Just Perfect!

When preparing for your wedding, perfection is something that can never be compromised. So, what if your wedding is in summer, when the sun shines so gloriously and temperatures are at an all-time high? Well, that definitely makes the task harder but here are some tips to make it easier on you!

  • First and foremost, an outdoor wedding in the GCC is quite impossible, so opt for a destination where the warm summer weather is bearable for you and your guests.
  • Take advantage of the refreshing and joyful summer colors – which will make you such a distinguished bride thanks to the colorful bouquet you’re carrying.
  • Nothing is more sophisticated and refined than lavender, so use the latter as a decoration or a flavor that sets the tone for your wedding cake.
  • In the scorching heat, nothing can make water fresher than the refreshing flavor of mint, lemon and strawberries when bottled in big dispensers. Quite a special way to keep your guests hydrated, don’t you agree?
  • Another detail that makes what you’re serving on this big day quite special is a gelato station!
  • Now it’s time to talk about the decoration. Summer rhymes with beach, so it would be a great idea to decorate the table with pieces related to this theme especially if you’re having a beach wedding.
  • Also ideal for summer is a welcome bag that you offer to your guests featuring items related to this season such as towels, sunglasses, an umbrella to protect them from the sun…
  • As for your beauty, avoid wearing your hair down and opting for heavy makeup that may get smudgy later on. Tell your hairdresser and makeup artist about the theme of your wedding and the location in order for him to do the necessary to keep your look perfect until the end of the day.
  • If the sun is out, alwayskeep a pair of sunglasses next to you in order to protect your eyes from the sun. And hey, choose ones that go well with the style of your dress!
  • If you’re into hair accessories, do not hesitate to flaunt your sophisticated style with an exquisite hat if your wedding happens to be during the day. However, a flower crown is always a good idea for the brides with bohemian taste.
