An Introduction to the World of Diamonds

Are you trying to learn new things during this lockdown? Ever been curious about diamonds? If your answer is yes, then keep reading because Tiffany & Co. is offering interesting insights on diamonds, and will introduce us to the House’s take on these beautiful stones so we can benefit from our quarantine by expanding our knowledge. Diamonds are characterized according to the 4 Cs which refer to: cut, clarity, color and carat. Let’s get to know these global standards, shall we?

As for the “color” factor, watch the video below to learn all about it!

When we talk about the “cut” – the factor that affects the diamond’s beauty the most – we refer to the diamond’s interaction with light which is determined by symmetry, proportion and polish. And there’s no doubt that Tiffany & Co. will always prefer beauty over size. On another note, it’s the only factor that depends on human intervention.

Another factor is the “clarity” which is the measure of the purity and rarity of the stone. The latter is considered flawless when no inclusions (internal flaws) and no blemishes (external imperfections) are visible under 10-power magnification.

Some people think that the diamond’s “carat” refers to its size, which is not the case; it is actually its weight – in Tiffany & Co. 1 carat equals 20 grams. However, the diamond’s weight does not determine its value since all factors are also taken into consideration.
