Alba's School of Fashion Design Presents its First Fashion Show

It was in September 2016 that Alba's School of Fashion Design was conceived, aimed at offering a platform for students to express themselves through a 3-year program in Fashion Design. The degree itself is under the sponsorship of Rabih Kayrouz and in partnership with the Fashion Design and Fashion Design department of ENSAV - La Cambre, Belgium and gives student the opportunity to bring together fashion and art with creativity and hard work.

And so, this year in particular saw the launch of the very first Alba Mode Show, the school’s first annual fashion show that is aimed at showcasing the students’ talents to a very wide audience. Indeed, the Academy’s atrium welcomed fifteen students representing all year categories – all of whom presented their designs to the members of the jury, both local and international, alongside a wide audience of fashion professionals, specialized media as well as friends and relatives.

The entire event was designed and created by both students and the school team and was a platform for the students to present their 3 years' works and have their hard work come alive at the heart of a moving show. The jury on the other hand consisted of key figures from the fashion world, such as Hania Yafawi (Dépêche Mode) and Raya Dernayka (Boutique Plum) as well as a group of specialized local and international media represented by Mrs. Fifi Abou Dib (L'Officiel/l'OLJ), Mrs. Sylvia Jorif and Mrs. Elisabeth Clauss (respectively free-lancer journalist and Elle Belgique).

The 60-look show was aimed at reflecting the latest trends and redefining the common perceptions of clothing by exploring the body's connection to space and how it relates to people. To top it all off, the first graduates of Alba's School of Fashion Design were awarded at the end of the show – a defining and stirring moment for everyone, from the students to the teachers, the school's director Mrs. Emilie Duval and the school's sponsor and designer Rabih Kayrouz.

After the success of the first show, we can’t wait for the second edition!

A Warm Welcome to the Iconic Cape

Consider it the finest category of coats – after furred sensations of course. Capes are a blast from the past that are far from being extinct. But there was a time where these classy coats were more prone to being stashed away in the back of our closets than other styles and we were left wondering about their future. Well ladies, the time has come to welcome back these fah-bu-lous coats into our fashion glossary of must-have styles and we couldn’t be more ecstatic about it.

But before we break out in hives over these beauties, let’s first and foremost talk about the Fall/Winter 2019-2020 runways.

While other brands were unveiling a new found love for maxi coats, Valentino, Burberry and other Fashion Houses were already making googly eyes at capes – and for good reason, might we add. The range of capes was rich in colors, cuts and other addings. But one thing they all had in common was the unabashed elegance emanating from them. So without further ado, check out our favorite picks and choose your coup de Coeur!

All-Things Feathery

Call them feathers, call them plumes or call them what you may, these little sensations are just the frosting on top of a very glamorous cake. But let’s talk fashion, shall we?

Feathered trimmings and linings were all the rage during the Fall/Winter 2019-2020 runways, what with designers and big Fashion Houses such as Valentino, Loewe, Attico – and so much more – sent out models in plume-infested outerwear. We’re talking feathered dresses from head to toe, feathered crop tops matched with pared-down trousers and last but not least, feathered coats. The styles were endless and the colors even more so. Designers went as far as adding these little soft darling to accessories such as bags, shoes and scarves – hello nineties – and not surprisingly, everyone who’s anyone is going gaga over the trend as we speak. And can we blame them really? The trend screams glam and glitz in all the right ways! As long as you’re sporting the right attitude, all you need to do is sit down, relax and choose your favorite go-to feathered piece!

Don’t get us wrong though, it’s not that kind of “blues”. We’ve got the blues for blue jeans – and so does Lana Del Rey apparently. If you’ve ever sifted through the archives of 80s and 90s styles, odds are you definitely noticed how everyone who was anyone was pulling off the fabulousness that is “blue jeans” in style. Blue jeans are a wardrobe mainstay that no woman should ever go without, whether it’s for work-related purposes or for everyday needs. Although they’ve been with us through all the years and decades, each year brings new additions to their styling. So if you want to perfect your denim game this season, up your ante by giving your blue jeans a bit of dazzle, from pairing them with statement-sleeved tops to contrasting shoes. But first, check out our top blue jeans!
