Online shopping, a double-edged sword that can get you addicted to this feeling of satisfaction upon a certain purchase, and is so consuming we’re sincerely never refraining from it. So why are people going gaga over this 21st century trend? Well, for starters, it’s all about mobility. In other words, for us couch potatoes, we don’t have to leave the comfort of our own home to go on a shopping spree! With literally just a click of a button, we can buy anything we need and have it delivered anywhere, anytime. Could a shopaholic ever need more?

Luckily, there are certain unspoken guidelines and rules that can make this virtual shopping experience even more time and cost efficient and more importantly, even more fun. So ladies, if just like us, you’re trying to limit your online binge-shopping, we’ve got your back. Here are some tried-and-true tips to guide you through the addiction that is online shopping. May self-control be ever in your favor!

  1. An online shopping platform could potentially be a dangerous territory if you haven’t made up your mind yet on your potential purchases. So to limit the collateral damage, make a list of all the things you actually need before you browse through the web. And no, you don’t necessarily need another pair of black pumps so close that tab, would you now?
  2. There’s a trick that could limit your purchases when you’re feeling a bit too bored, or a bit too impulsive: if you’re browsing through the web and happen to come across a lot of stuff you may or may not need, then add them all to a shopping cart or a wishlist. Once you’re done browsing, you’ll better be able to sift through your selections and pick your final wishlist. Proceed by elimination and if you find yourself hesitant, than odds are you might not really need said item.
  3. One thing we should all be aware of is the “I’ll wear it when I lose more weight” trap. You may or may not lose weight, but the time and effort you’d have spent on that unnecessary purchase won’t give you the satisfying feeling you’ve been craving. In other words, don’t let your purchases depend on your will to shed those extra pounds.
  4. Beware of over-shopping…it might feel like a “virtual experience”, but your credit card will not get that memo.
  5. Finally, if you find yourself more often than not surfing through the web to fill a certain void, then you’re doing it for the wrong reasons – and that’s spoken from a true shopaholic. Revert your attention towards a website to plan your next trip for instance, something that could actually bring you memorable experiences and not momentary ones.

Speaking of online shopping, here’s a little something to get your fashion flow going!
