A Conversation with Designer Rami Al Ali

Since the beginning of his journey, Rami Al Ali has been a shining star in the fashion world. And after establishing Rami Al Ali Couture in Dubai in 2001, he started to leave even more daring traces with his designs. He first had inspiring fashion shows around the Gulf and today he showcases on a larger scale including NY Bridal Fashion Week. Through designs synonymous with creative artistry and modern elegance, he caters to the needs of every strong feminine woman.

Azyaamode had the chance to have a conversation with the talented Rami Al Ali to learn more about his inspiring journey and his latest collection White 5. Here’s how it went!

How important is the Bridal world in our region?

The bridal world has great value here in the region, and this is shown by the way weddings are celebrated with a lot of attention, and what they mean to us. Weddings can be seen as a social statement and beautifully convey the backgrounds of both the bride and groom and their families, so it is of great importance to study all related elements, especially the wedding dress.

Is the collection always designed with a focus on Arab women or do you have other clientele to think of as well?

I design for strong, feminine women who have a quiet confidence and possess both inner and outer beauty – no matter what their nationality is. We have a broad clientele and showcasing White at NY bridal fashion week has also allowed us to expand this further.

Take us through the process of requesting a wedding dress: how much time does it take, whom should we contact and how, is there a long wait to get an appointment…?
Usually, the process starts with the client meeting with our specialized team in their first appointment, where discussions are made regarding the brief, understanding the bride’s needs, showcasing the latest collection and samples, along with presenting private designs that haven’t been released to the public. We always advise our clients to book an appointment 3-6 months ahead of the wedding, to allocate plenty of time for the whole process; from the initial meeting, fittings, and changes (if needed), to the final fitting. It’s important to dedicate this amount of time so we can ensure the bride is thrilled with the final result.

Which Bridal dress took you the longest to produce?

One of our bridal dresses was requested by a wonderful Russian client who wanted a lot of details to be included in the design to make her dream wedding dress. This special design included a 7-meter-long train completed with hand embroidery and a very detailed veil. The process required many visits and fittings, and the client kept adjusting the dress until she reached the ultimate result of her dream design. Unfortunately, we don’t have any visuals as this was a private design for the customer.

The White 5 collection was presented during NY Bridal Fashion Week, what is it like to be part of such a universal event?
NY Bridal Fashion Week is one of the most important platforms right now, for many reasons; it’s one of the most renowned and covers one of the biggest markets as well. It has all the most important names in the bridal world and is followed by the most important retailers, influencers, stylists, event planners, and of course media. Therefore, it is important for us to be part of this as it has a great volume of interest, exposure and traffic, and gives us the right positioning to launch something new and be part of that scene.

A timeless color palette with thoughtful touches of silver hues was chosen for the White 5 collection, can you tell us more about it?
We opted for a timeless color palette that remains true to its bridal form.
