With the fashion industry becoming more and more committed to sustainability and “cruelty free”, it was only time the world’s biggest brands and Houses followed suit. And so, the ever-so acclaimed Donatella Versace has recently announced that Versace was going fur-free, as part of a wider effort to assert the brand’s responsibility to the people and the planet.

“Fur? I am out of that. I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion,” stated Donatella Versace

Indeed, the brand which has been embracing sustainable initiatives with an environment-friendly approach, had recently opened a new London boutique in Sloane Street, pegged as the first of its kind to be LEED certified. In addition to this boutique, two more will open in Miami and Munich in 2018. This ethical approach represents Versace’s endeavor to serve its customers in a responsible way, by paying close attention to the provenance and conditions of its products.

“Fur products already represent a minor part of Versace’s product line. This commitment is part of a broader, sustainable innovation program the Company is pursuing, that includes not only a strong commitment to work across our entire supply chain, but also a strong and deep cultural shift that will benefit all employees,” said Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO.

Versace is hence going fur-free from the 2019 collections onward.
