The Velvet Trend- The Do’s And Don’ts

This season, designers take us down memory lane as they re-introduce velvet to our fashion vocabulary. Why, you ask? Because velvet is now a thing; there’s no point in arguing there! Its luscious texture and state-of-the-art colors make for a wonderful palette and it’s been known for being associated with royalty! But while this style seems to be succeeding with flying colors, we can’t help but examine its flaws. Consider it a double-edged sword, a trend that is utterly elegant but can look inexplicably vulgar if not worn properly!

So, we’ve decided to share some of our tips in order to make sure you’re on the “yay” side of the trend.

Do pick jewel-toned colors, such as emerald green, sapphire blue, ruby red or even the most basic- albeit classiest- color of all, black.

Don’t go all velvet overboard! Stick to a maximum of two velvet pieces and keep the rest very simple.

Do go for a velvet blazer to enrich your outfit.

Don’t venture into a velvet garment that is not ironed. It’s a serious no-no and it will definitely cheapen your outfit.

Do go for a plunging neckline and put the spotlight on your neck with a velvet choker as well!

Don’t go for extravagant embellishments. Velvety textures are already bold and daring enough, you don’t need to add another layer of “ouh-la la” to the pile!

Do have fun with the styles! Pick the pieces you like the most and get them in velvet!
