The 80’s Craze: The Do’s and Don’ts

Ah, the eighties! A time where spandex and big shoulders were all it took to melt in the aerobic-crazed crowd. A time when funky tunes were the talk of the town and The Golden Girls was the comedy of the decade! Did your inner Cyndi Lauper just think to herself “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”? If she did, than this article is totally for you!

The 80s were irrevocably tamed with skinny ripped tights and overzealous colors. Since then, fashion’s come a long way! Nevertheless, history does indeed repeat itself – to answer some old-age questions – and as we became infatuated with the 80s, we think it’s fine time for us to immerse ourselves in the vibrant world of oversized jackets, permed hair, neon colors and leg-warmers.

But what trends will you actually be extracting from the 80s come fall? Lots. And designers have made it pretty obvious, from Saint Laurent to Isabel Marant, Lanvin and Moschino.

So to channel these unique looks, we’ve decided to give you a comprehensive guide of the decade’s boldest trends.

Do go for bulging one-shouldered bodices or dresses, à la Saint Laurent. Sassy but classy.

Do opt for shoulder-padded vests as to bring volume to your shoulders. Will we ever get bored of this trend? Some say it will never cease to exist!

Do buy your own denim mini-skirt, as to reminisce on Madonna’s funky style!

Don’t go all aerobic on us. Meaning, please forget about leg-warmers; this fad was never okay!

Do get yourself some big, big earrings as to spruce up your outfit.

We know some of you wore sweatbands on your forehead back in the day. It seemed like a pretty great idea at the time, but let it be clear that it’s a huge 21st century don’t.

But most importantly, do take out your old jumpsuits because ladies, they’re back in style and it’s your turn to make them this decade’s power-outfit!
