My Jewelry Obsession – Why Are Watches Worn on the Left Wrist?

We all wear watches – well, at least most of us do! But have we ever wondered why we wear them on the left wrist? This is not a tradition, nor a rule; this is all about practicality.

First things first, most people are right-handed so wearing the watch on the left hand is more practical as it makes looking at the time easier and protects the timepiece from damages. Keeping up with the practical side of wearing a watch on the left wrist, most of them worked in the past by wind-up clockwork mechanisms and wearing them in the left hand made it easier for right-handed wearers to wind their watches.

Nowadays, wearing watches on the left hand is more of a personal preference, as watch-wearers choose the wrist that makes them feel comfortable. And for the ladies, wearing a watch on the right wrist is more of a fashion statement, as this will allow you to highlight its beauty and sophistication. Just make sure not to wear it this way while at work in order to avoid scratches and minimize the damages that could occur to your precious treasure.
