Louis Vuitton Presents its Cruise 2018 Show in Japan

Nicolas Ghesquière took his Parisian inspirations to Japan’s rich heritage, taking over the Miho Museum in Kyoto with style and elegance. The whole collection was a celebration of the urban and the natural, the old and the new, the French roots and the Japanese culture. The fashion pack navigated the globe to witness this exceptional moment in history, where Louis Vuitton would take its modernistic outlook and channel it into a unique show with intricate Japanese references infiltrated into the designs. Think urban pantsuits and architectural tunics recalling the spirit of Hokusai. Think evening dresses dipped into Noh Theater’s gold and jerseys and leather sweaters reminiscent of the warrior’s armors. Think obi belts taking over tapered trousers and unique handbags and clutches adorned with Kabuki masks. Think Paris-meets-Samurai.

Louis Vuitton also paid homage to designer Kansaï Yamamoto who gifted the next generation of Japanese designers with a future in Paris, after presenting his work in the City of Love.

Nicolas Ghesquière said:” I visited the Miho Museum a few years ago and was fascinated by I.M.Pei’s concept of the harmony between architecture and nature. Japan is a country I know well. It was one of the first places I traveled to when I was seeking inspiration, some twenty years ago, and I’ve been a regular visitor ever since. This collection is the culmination of what Japan has given to me for a very long time”.

Celebrities such as Sophie Turner and Michelle Williams graced the show, witnessing bold shoulders, vivid leopard prints, form-fitting jackets hiding long shirts and structured dresses. Nicolas Ghesquière made it very clear: oversized is the new fashion standard.
