Embrace Your Curls

I have a love/hate relationship with my curls. I usually blow dry my hair straight, but once in a while I like to unleash my wild curly side. Curls get so much attention but also require special love and care. Start off with a good haircut. The right haircut can help your curls fall nicely, and guarantees you avoid the triangle look with too much weight at the ends.

As far as color, I love highlights on curly hair because when the light hits the curls the highlights just shine through.

Don’t wash your curly hair daily. Curls are naturally dryer and need more moisture. So, use a moisturizing shampoo and always condition. Frizz is the biggest enemy of curly hair. Avoid this by using a microfiber towel instead of a regular towel when getting out of the shower.

After drying some of the excess water, define the curls with a lotion. Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancing Lotion smells really nice and works wonders. After applying this, I let my hair air dry for as long as possible before blow drying. I flip my hair upside down and start scrunching and blow drying. After my hair is almost completely dry, I go over it with a smoothing serum like the Moroccan oil.
