Dior Couture Spring-Summer 2019

It was at the heart of a mighty circus tent that Dior’s Couture Spring-Summer 2019 runway show was staged and it was as spectacular as the venue itself. The latter was filled with dancing acrobats, all of whom surrounded the models as they paraded their way onto the runway.

Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri toyed with the concept of a circus and eloquently turned it into a Dior Dream Parade. In the fashion world, that meant velvety curtain-inspired mini dresses, a red pantsuit reminiscent of a “great showman”, high Harlequin necklines and a lot more where that came from. In the midst of all the circus mayhem, Dior’s trademarks were heavily on display, from the pared down col bateau dresses to the perfectly-well tailored trousers. There was a certain understated elegance – something Chiuri has impressively pulled off throughout her career – that was gently mixed with Cirque du Soleil references. Think striped shirts as a nod to ringmasters, sequined boots bedazzled with stars, a shirt tamed by a lion that had a “Dior Dream Parade” slogan, and little organza dresses that shaped the models ever-so elegantly. Show-goers were literally spellbound by the Dior circus!

And so, if you’ve ever wondered what a Dior circus would look like, then Maria Grazia Chiuri’s rendition of the House’s Spring-Summer 2019 collection will put an end to all your pending questions [Anchor] .
