Dials to Watch

Dial artistry fuelled by imagination takes watchmaking to great new heights. Jewelers who have branched out into watchmaking have imbued their pieces with exceptional craftsmanship by adorning the dials with enamel, diamonds, mother-of-pearl, micro-mosaic, nano mosaic tesserae and enhancing the beauty with a myriad of techniques such as paillonné and champlevé enamelling, relief engraving, feather marquetry and miniature painting. Bulgari, Dior, Chanel, Chopard, Harry Winston, Vacheron Constantin, Van Cleef and Arpels have been exploring watchmaking with its team of revered and skilled artisans who breathe life into each piece that is produced at the atelier.

Masterful creations by Bulgari with its Giardini di Bulgari line feature lacquered dials embellished with parrot, flowers, fishes and leaves motifs and set with brilliant-cut diamonds and coral; while Dior’s Grand Bal series are an ode to the legendary galas, cocktail parties and dresses of yore.

Chanel’s Mademoiselle Privé collection combines artistic crafts, precious embroidery and grand feu enamel to envision breathtaking timepieces; whereas Van Cleef and Arpels in its Poetic Complications, Lady Arpels Papillons and Extraordinary Dials collection uses intricate mechanisms and artistic adornments to explore fascinating possibilities in watchmaking.

Dior VIII Grand Bal, Dior Grand Soir, La D De Dior Précieuse watches embody the spirit of the House of Dior and draw upon various aspects such as the brand’s creativity, sense of style, colors and swirling ball gowns, among others. Vacheron Constantin in its earlier Métiers D’Art Les Univers Infinis employs fascinating techniques while using the sea, doves and shells as its muses. The watchmaker turns to Chinese embroidery, Indian manuscripts, French lacework and Ottoman architecture for its newest Métiers D’Art Fabuleux collection and celebrates the decorative arts of several cultures.

To throw the spotlight on some such timepieces, we have selected some interesting pieces by jewelers and watchmakers, including Boodles, Carl F Bucherer, Chopard, de Grisogono, David Morris, Fabergé, Jewellery Theatre and Sicis, Palmiero and Perrelet in our list of favourites.

Gucci Unveils New Jewelry and Watches for 2019

With the beginning of every year, the young fashionistas start wondering what Gucci has in store for them, and we’re not talking about fashion or accessories, but about jewelry and watches. To be honest, our youthful soul never gets enough of this brand’s bold take on the latest trends, and the collection of jewelry and timepieces that it unveils every year proves us right every time!

For the new G Cube silver jewelry line, Gucci introduces genderless designs that stand out through the intricate arabesque pattern engraved on the surface of the cube-shaped G logo. The novelties include two necklaces, two rings of different widths, an open-cuff bangle and a pair of cufflinks crafted from hand-polished sterling silver with aged finishing.

In fine jewelry, the GG Running collection offers a new interpretation of the distinctive double G through clean lines, miniature stud work and luxurious materials – welcoming six pieces in three different color variations: 18-carat yellow gold, 18-carat yellow gold with diamonds or 18-carat white gold with diamonds. Also in the fine jewelry category, Le Marché des Merveilles provides pieces that easily take you from day to night. This line redefines the House’s motifs in a contemporary and romantic style, and this year, the honeybee stars in a pair of earrings and a matching pendant made of 18-carat yellow and white gold paved with white diamonds.

Finally, the watches! For this year, Gucci presents the new G-Timeless Automatic watches in pastel shades, supplied with a mother-of-pearl dial shining through a 38mm-diameter case. Add Fun to Your Winter Style with These Timepieces

Yes, we understand that winter is that time of year that makes you want to feel cozy all the time but a little bit of fun wouldn’t hurt if it only makes your outfits more joyful and vibrant. One of the ways to make your winter looks more playful is choosing a timepiece that exudes fun and joy.

Many qualities can make a watch the perfect item to spice up your style this season. The first one that comes to mind is the color: exploring fun hues can be quite amusing, especially that your outfits during this time of year are usually dark, so adding a colorful timepiece to the mix will definitely do the trick.

Second, the fun can be in the dial. Houses such as Cartier and Chopard reached new levels in creativity, with the first offering a timepiece that, when shook, displays the head of a panther that disappears after a while, and the second reflecting an unparalleled sense of happiness through diamonds taking the shape of snowflakes floating on the dial.

And while watchmaking houses such as Van Cleef and Arpels and Piaget made of their watches’ bezel an object of fun for the woman who wears them, Dior and Hermès find it more playful to hide the dial beneath a motif that only reflects their modern creativity that keeps on reaching new levels.

Below are 10 timepieces that will do the task!

Cartier Unveils the Iconic Santos in Stunning Dubai Fountain Exhibition

In partnership with Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, Cartier unveils its iconic Santos de Cartier watches in an exhibition floating atop the waters of Dubai Fountain. In fact, that’s the least we can expect from a watchmaking house that doesn’t compromise on perfection.

Created by the Maison in 1904, this wristwatch is one of the world’s firsts and was originally crafted for the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont to make time-telling easier while flying. And this year, this legendary creation returns with a new, bold design during Dubai Shopping Festival.

The exhibition tells the story of this watch through photographs of the aviator and his accomplishments in an immersive room, while the history of Santos watches from the Cartier Collections is showcased in another space. However, the center-piece of the exhibition would be the multi-sensorial experience embodied by Santos Dumont’s famed Demoiselle airplane replica suspended in the heart of Cartier’s wire mesh structure.

“Organized in the region’s cultural hub, which has been a constant source of inspiration for the Maison ever since Jacques Cartier’s first trip here in 1912, the Santos exhibition is Cartier’s first major event open to the public in the region. It highlights our watchmakers’ unparalleled know-how as well as the Maison’s enduring creative spirit, which we are very proud to share with our guests,” said Sophie Doireau, Managing Director Cartier UAE and India.
