Beauty Tip of the Week – Lipstick Hacks

We know how much we love our pouts, and no pout is complete without our favorite lipstick. In order for makeup to look flawless and just right, I find it key to always pay attention to details, feature by feature. I use some hacks worth sharing when it comes to all things lipstick, and they are super easy and can become a regular part of your makeup routine.

1. No more lipstick on your teeth:
This applies mainly to reds and all things beyond and darker. After application, we always realize that lipstick is on our teeth. You can stop this from happening altogether by simply putting your finger in your mouth, close your lips around your finger then simply pull your finger out.

2. Make your favorite lipstick last all day:
We all have our ultimate lipstick shade, but sometimes that perfect shade doesn't come in a long wearing formula. Good news is you can turn into a long wearing lipstick. Once you apply your lipstick, gently place a thin layer tissue on your lips. Next, dust some loose powder over the tissue area covering the lips. Your lipstick will appear more matte and will not budge!

3. Lipstick Palettes:
As a makeup artist, this is essential. I always end up with so many lipsticks that it's hard for me to recognize the difference between all of them, or even remember what I have.  Solution? An empty lipstick palette is available at MAC and you can put many of your favorite lipsticks in it. Simply scrape out the lipstick, or chop it all off and out of its actual plastic container, place the product on a spoon and gently place over a candle. Wait for the product to melt and once it’s a liquidized, pour it into a square of the palette. Repeat this with your favorite lipsticks and you will end up with a practical and beautiful grid of colors.

4. Create your own lip-gloss:
Before you head out to buy that perfect new gloss, check out what colors you already have in eye pigments or eye shadows. Some of them make for perfect lip colors especially when you mix. Simply take a crushed eye shadow or pigment, and mix in some petroleum jelly or clear gloss, and voila you will have a dazzling new lip gloss!

5. Beautiful healthy lips:
I cannot emphasize this enough! Always be sure to prep lips with a gentle lip exfoliator, and lip conditioner.

Happy lips, are pretty lips!
